PEORIA, Ill. – OSF HealthCare has been recognized as one of the nation’s top health systems for cancer care.
Becker’s Hospital Review named OSF to its 2026 list of 100 hospitals and health systems with great oncology programs. The annual list recognizes organizations for their work in cancer research, treatment and innovation.
The OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute in Peoria opened in February 2024 and serves as the flagship of the health system’s oncology program. It brings cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, research and survivorship services together in one location.
The institute is also home to one of two comprehensive proton beam therapy programs in Illinois. OSF says 380 patients have completed proton therapy there since April 2024. The treatment uses protons to target tumors while limiting radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissue in appropriate patients.
OSF has also expanded its lung cancer screening efforts. The health system says screening rates through its centralized program increased from 18.2% in 2020 to 42.8% in 2025, while annual screening volume nearly doubled.
Becker’s Healthcare says its annual list is compiled using nominations and an analysis of industry rankings. Organizations cannot pay to be included.
