PEORIA, Ill. – After 41 years at the Peoria Metro Centre, the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk is heading to a new home.
The Peoria Chiefs and Susan G. Komen Central Illinois announced Thursday that Dozer Park will host the annual fundraising walk on Saturday, May 8, 2027.
The event, formerly known as the Race for the Cure, has united thousands of survivors, supporters, volunteers and advocates in the fight against breast cancer for more than four decades. It raises funds to accelerate breast cancer research, improve treatment and provide support to those facing a diagnosis.
Peoria Chiefs General Manager Jason Mott welcomed the partnership.
“We’re excited and honored to join Susan G. Komen’s fight against breast cancer by hosting our region’s MORE THAN PINK Walk,” Mott said. “While Dozer is the home of the Chiefs, above all else, it’s a place for the Central Illinois community to come together.”
The Metro Centre held special significance for the event — it was developed by Marvin Goodman, the father of Susan G. Komen herself. Susan G. Komen Central Illinois Executive Director Jordan Clum acknowledged the meaningful transition.
“As we close an extraordinary 41-year chapter at Metro Centre, we do so with heartfelt gratitude for the venue, its leadership, and the generations of supporters who helped build this event into a cherished community tradition,” Clum said. “We are excited to begin a new era at Dozer Park alongside the Peoria Chiefs.”
The walk coincides with a Peoria Chiefs home game against the Beloit Sky Carp later that evening. Additional details about the 2027 event will be announced at a later date.
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men in their lifetime in the United States.
