PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria turned pink after dark Tuesday night in honor of the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton.
Both the Murray Baker Bridge and the Peoria County Courthouse were lit up to celebrate Parton’s incredible legacy. It was a nod to Dolly’s famous saying: “There’s no such thing as too much pink.”
You might remember, Dolly has a history with the River City—performing back in 1977 at Bradley University and returning in 1988 at the Peoria Civic Center.
But, Tuesday night’s gesture wasn’t just about the music. It was a tip of the hat to Parton’s work behind the scenes, from funding life-saving medical research to putting free books into the hands of kids through her Imagination Library.
Dolly Parton was a star who made a massive, lasting difference in communities like Peoria.
