PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria-area concert promoter is reflecting on the life and legacy of a country music icon.
Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80.
Jay Goldberg of Jay Goldberg Events and Entertainment booked Parton for a few shows under his company.
Goldberg tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” that one of the first shows he booked Parton for was to be a co-headliner with Steve Goodman in the 1970’s in Rockford. He recalls adding her to the show and meeting her the day of the concert, but forgetting to tell hospitality to have enough food for her and her crew.
Goldberg says throughout all the years of interactions with Parton, she and her crew were a very gracious and thankful group.
“She was one that would during the day and the afternoon, she would walk around the venue and she would talk to everybody, whoever you were,” Goldberg said. “Whether they were staff of the building or anybody.”
