PRINCEVILLE, Ill. – Hopes of reopening the community pool in Princeville are on the rise again after a big donation.
The Princeville Aquatic Center Board announced on Wednesday that an anonymous donor has contributed $200,000 to the fundraising campaign.
The campaign’s goal to make the needed repairs to reopen is $425,000, and has now raised around $315,000. Board Treasurer Jacob Wilson says he’s hopeful the large donation will inspire others in the community to get them across the finish line.
“We’ve been hearing from some other citizens around the Princeville community that they’re interested in donating, and maybe they were just a little hesitant because they weren’t quite sure if we were going to reach our goal or not,” Wilson said.
Wilson says fundraising had gone a little quiet recently in its two-year campaign, with the board potentially looking into local and state grants to cover the remaining amount. He says grants are still a possibility.
The Princeville pool closed in 2022 over financial concerns and a potential demolition. The following year, a nonprofit was formed to try and restore and reopen the pool. In December of 2024, ownership of the pool was transferred to the nonprofit.
