PEORIA, Ill. – An investigation is underway after a male body was pulled from the Illinois River on Tuesday morning.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says a fisherman spotted the body sometime between 8:30-9:00 A.M. on the Peoria side of the river near the Bob Michel Bridge.
Harwood says the body was pulled from the river by Peoria Fire. He estimates the victim was in the river for a period of under eight hours based on temperatures of the body and the water.
Peoria Police took fingerprints of the victim, for identification purposes. Harwood says the victim was identified, but the name is being withheld at this time, pending notification of family.
Harwood says an autopsy was performed on Tuesday and is still going on. He expects more information to be released on Wednesday.
