PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County grand jury has indicted the man alleged to have been behind a Memorial Day shooting at Glen Oak Park.
On Tuesday, 20-year-old Harlem Porter was indicted for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Fraudulent Identification Card.
Last month, Porter was ordered detained until trial by a judge.
Prosecutors allege that in the early evening hours of May 25th, 31 shots were fired in the park, with 19 reportedly coming from a handgun from Porter. Multiple vehicles were struck by bullets in the area of the park.
Police had pursued an SUV that was reportedly connected to Porter that had crashed, with multiple occupants fleeing after. A handgun was allegedly found inside the SUV.
Porter was reportedly later found hiding in a vehicle at a nearby gas station, with an Indiana driver’s license found on him after being taken into custody. The license reportedly had his picture and another person’s name on it.
Porter allegedly admitted to having the handgun and firing it, but claimed self-defense.
