PEORIA, Ill. – One of the Peoria area’s vital roads is receiving a boost from the federal government for upgrades.
On Tuesday at Ridgeview Elementary School, 16th District Congressman Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) presented Peoria and Peoria County leaders with $1 million in federal funding for improvements to Radnor Road.
The project will stretch from Willow Knolls to the roundabout at Alta Road. It will feature upgrades that include new pavement, improved drainage, and bicycle and pedestrian lanes.
The $1 million will go towards design and engineering work, which Peoria County Highway Department Engineer Amy McLaren says will take 1-2 years to complete.
McLaren says the project is needed because it will help a growing area of Peoria.
“There’s business areas, there’s residential areas, north of the city there’s areas of economic opportunities for development. So we’re hoping that we can make this a more modern road, make it more safe for the folks that use it all the time,” McLaren said.
McLaren says the project will cost around $10 million in total.
The timeline for the project is spread out over numerous years. McLaren says the public could get its first eyes on the design concepts late next year. But she adds construction may not begin until the late 2020’s, or even to 2030.
