PEORIA, Ill. – A restructuring plan by the United States Postal Service that would affect operations in Peoria is moving forward.
25 News reports USPS is moving mail processing and distribution center operations from Peoria to Bedford Park.
But the Peoria center will remain open and operate as a local processing center.
USPS is planning to spend more than $8 million to expand and streamline operations at the Peoria facility.
Layoffs of career employees are not expected, but some reductions could be made to pre-career employees.
Post office, business mail, and branch retail services are not expected to change.
Congressmen Darin LaHood and Eric Sorensen have raised concerns about the plan, wondering how the changes will improve efficiency.
