PEKIN, Ill. – Pekin’s Marigold Festival has been going on since 1973, honoring Pekin native Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen.
“The event really started with an art show, and that has developed into Art in the Park. The first Marigold Festival was in the downtown area, and that obviously has moved to Mineral Springs Park and expanded greatly with all the events and activities,” says Executive Director of the Pekin Chamber of Commerce Amy McCoy.
The 54th Marigold Festival kicks into high gear Friday night with the “Roots & Boots” Dragon Jam at the Avanti’s Center.
“We have three local acts, country bands, and then we have Nashville recording artist Jake Clayton coming. He’s absolutely fantastic, plays multiple instruments and puts on a great show,” McCoy says.
The “Roots & Boots” Dragon Jam runs from 5-11 p.m. Tickets are $20.00, and kids under 10 get in free.
Art in the Park is going on all day Saturday, the Marigold Festival Parade and Marigold Mile race both begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. There’s also the carnival, food vendors and more.
