PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria City/County Health Department has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity for projects aimed at addressing food insecurity for working families in Peoria County.
The Board of Health has allocated a total of $100,000 for projects in the $20,000-$50,000 range.
Looking at data from Feeding America, Peoria County’s overall food insecurity rate is 14.5%. Of those identified as being food insecure, 43% make too much money to qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
This notice of funding opportunity is for programs that will address this gap in food access for households with at least one individual who receives an income and have at least one child under the age of 18 living in the home
The Board of Health initially allocated funding to the Health Department’s pantry, and now they are looking to expand their scope and fund larger projects.
“Expanding access and decreasing food insecurity aligns with our Community Health Needs Assessment and falls under our strategic priorities as a health department,” said Benjamin Brewer, President of the Peoria County Board of Health. “We hope organizations with tested programs, as well as those with new ideas, apply for this funding.”
Organizations or individuals interested in the notice of funding can find details at www.pcchd.org. The application deadline is September 4.
