DELAVAN, Ill. (25 News) – Another city is saying no to data centers—as the Delavan City Council voted 4-1 to end all discussions on the possibility of a data center being built in the community.
25 News says Ward 3 Councilperson Linda Slabaugh was the lone vote in favor of the data centers. Slabaugh argued that data centers are some of the richest companies in the country, and the council should at least hear what they have to offer.
Data centers are a hot topic across the country, with communities rejecting them over concerns about water and electricity use, noise, and pollution.
This year, the Delavan City Council discussed annexing a 100-acre site into the city and and selling it to data center developers, but that plan didn’t make it far.
Earlier this month, the Tazewell County Board backed a resolution to slow the approval process. It said the county’s zoning department will not accept petitions from developers to build data centers until the board adopts an ordinance establishing regulations for such projects.
