PEORIA, Ill. – The next wave of Republican State Representative Darren Bailey’s campaign for Governor has taken him to Peoria.
Bailey and new running mate Stephanie Trussell are proposing a tax cut for Illinois residents, and was asked how that tax cut would work.
“The proposal is, simply, a zero-based budget,” said Bailey, “instead of going back to this budget that’s been automatically removed since 1969, and no one has any idea of what is in that thing.”
Bailey says getting the right people as state agency heads, and letting them craft their own budgets is also part of of the plan.
Trussell has been a radio talk show host in Chicago, and was formally introduced Monday as Bailey’s running mate. Trussell told a crowd Tuesday morning at Kelleher’s, Democrats are already attacking her.
“Some are saying that I’m a Trump loyalist. Some are saying that I didn’t support President Trump,” Trussell said. “This morning, I heard — which is really amusing to me — that I’m a plant, and I’m not really a Conservative.”
Trussell admits she wasn’t a fan of Donald Trump as a candidate in 2016, but ended up campaigning for him last year.
Bailey, who has sued Governor JB Pritzker in the past over his handling of the pandemic, calls the Governor a “liar” when it comes to local school districts. Trussell referred to Pritzker as a “failure.”
Bailey is one of six Republicans who have announced runs for Governor next year.
