PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to a detached garage fire on Monday evening that resulted in $60,000 damage and displacing three residents.
Battalion Chief Cornell Brooks said crews arrived in the 2800 block of N. Sterling Avenue around 6:20 p.m., finding a one-stall garage fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters had the blaze out within 15 minutes, preventing it from spreading to the nearby home.
The garage and its contents were a total loss, and the adjacent home sustained moderate exterior siding damage.
The total damage to the property includes $50,000 for the garage and $10,000 for the siding damage.
A fire investigator attributed the fire to electrical factors.
One firefighter sustained moderate injuries at the scene and was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment.
The Red Cross provided temporary housing for three adults who lost utilities in the fire.
