PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria to Memphis St. Jude Ride will take off Thursday morning with over 130 riders.
Ride Coordinator Eric Wilson is inviting everyone to the sendoff at Walters Brothers Harley-Davidson at 7 a.m. They’ll be traveling 465 miles.
Each rider is responsible for raising at least $1,000 to participate, and $1,500 if they have a passenger. But, many raise much more, Wilson says.
Peoria riders will stay overnight Thursday in Dyersburg, Tennessee, where they’ll meet up with the other St. Jude Rides Friday morning.
“There’s a ride from Dallas, Chicago, Joplin, Alabama. There’s a ride from Dyersburg, Tennessee, Des Moines, Iowa, Nashville, Tennessee, Kansas City, and then Lacon, Illinois,” Wilson says.
After arriving in Memphis, and touring the campus, the riders will present a check to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Last year, St. Jude Rides raised $1.3 million. They hope to reach at least that much this year, hopefully more, Wilson says.
Some riders come back to Peoria together on Saturday, but others make the trip a bit of a vacation, spending more time on the road before coming home, Wilson says.
