PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in Peoria were up nearly two cents in the last week, averaging $3.36 a gallon on Tuesday, according to GasBuddy. Those prices are just over five cents higher than a month ago and nearly 25 cents a gallon lower than this time last year.
GasBuddy reports that cheapest gas in Peoria on Labor Day was $3.19 a gallon while the most expensive gas was $3.59. The lowest price in the state was $2.73 and the highest price was $4.67.
GasBuddy says the national average price of gas has dropped nearly 3.5 cents in the last week, averaging $3.15 a gallon on Tuesday. That’s up just over 1.5 cents from a month ago and over 13 cents lower than a year ago.
“With the unofficial end of summer now behind us, we saw the lowest national average price of gasoline on Labor Day since 2020, with prices lower than a year ago in all but three states,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says.
“This caps off the most affordable summer at the pump since 2021, with motorists spending $11.3 billion less on gasoline compared to last year. While summer may be in the rearview mirror, low gas prices aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, so long as we avoid major hurricanes or other disruptions, we’re on solid footing to see the national average dip to $2.99 per gallon this fall,” De Haan says.
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois says the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area on Tuesday was $3.37 a gallon, the state average price was $3.50, and the national average price of unleaded gas was $3.18.
