PEORIA, Ill. – Thousands of new and returning Bradley University students will be coming back to Peoria this weekend before a brand new school year.
Move-in weekend runs through Saturday on campus, with residence hall move-in Saturday and Honors move-in on Friday.
The move-in will cause heavy traffic in and around the campus this weekend. Bradley Police Chief Brian Joschko says more officers will be available to keep things moving, especially on Saturday when a majority of students will be moving in.
“On that day, our entire department will be on campus throughout the day assisting with move-in, so we’ll have over 20 officers on duty making sure that traffic flows in and around the Bradley University area,” Joschko said.
Joschko says his department is working with Peoria Public Works to help with traffic flow. He says there will be a traffic shift on University to add a lane of traffic to decrease congestion. Joschko adds that the main disruption will be on Bradley Ave., where all traffic will be flowing to at the intersection with University, and Bradley Ave. will become a one-way street.
Parking restrictions will also be in effect in the following areas:
- No parking will be allowed on N. University Street from W. Main Street to W. Bradley Avenue, beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting through Saturday.
- No parking will be allowed on the south side of W. Main Street from N. University Street to N. Elmwood Avenue, beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting through Saturday.
- No parking will be allowed on N. Elmwood Avenue from W. Main Street to W. Bradley Avenue, beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting through Saturday.
- No parking will be allowed at the Founder’s Circle, 1400 W. St. James Street, beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until 8 a.m. on Monday, August 25.
Once students arrive on campus, Director of Student Engagement Cory Bosco says a lot of people will be around to help get people into their new homes.
“We have 450 registered volunteers ready to help them unload their cars and get them into their residence hall rooms,” Bosco said.
Bosco advises students to label all of their items with name and room number to help the volunteers, and to not leave cars unattended.
He says Welcome Week activities begin after move-in is complete, which includes Taste of Bradley and a block party.
