PEORIA, Ill. – A Pekin man has been sentenced to federal prison after being found guilty earlier this year of attempting to entice a minor.
32-year-old Joseph Perkins was sentenced to ten years on Thursday, followed by seven years of supervised release. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
The Department of Justice says Perkins engaged in conversations from January 2023 to March of 2024 with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.
Prosecutors say Perkins made multiple attempts in those conversations to obtain nude photos, and repeated attempts to meet up to engage in sexual activities. He was met by federal law enforcement at a planned meetup in March of 2024 and arrested.
Perkins was found guilty in April, after being indicted the year prior.
