PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria woman will spend more than three decades in prison in the shooting death of her boyfriend two years ago in the West Bluff.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 20-year-old Tnashia Wash was sentenced to 31 years, after pleading guilty in June to First-Degree Murder in the death of 30-year-old Roderick Richardson.
Wash must serve 100% of her sentence. But she could be eligible for parole after 20 years due to her age at the time of the offense.
The fatal shooting occurred in October of 2023, with Wash admitting to killing Richardson, but claiming self-defense.
At Thursday’s sentencing hearing, Richardson’s mother testified of unimaginable pain of burying her son, along with sleepless nights and unanswered questions.
The judge noted that Wash had no prior criminal history, but there had to be a significant consequence because a life was taken.
