FARMINGTON, Ill. – A 16-year-old was arrested Monday night after he broke into a Farmington home, beat the homeowner unconscious, and stole his vehicle.
Farmington Police said they were called just after 6 p.m. to a reported battery on W. Pearl Lot 34. When they arrived, officers found a 65-year-old man bleeding from his head.
Officers were told the victim knew the suspect, who asked for a ride and was told no. The teen then pushed his way into the man’s home and allegedly took a gun out of his pants.
The victim told police he was pushed against a shelf, beaten and kicked in the head and body before he passed out. He woke up and noticed he was bleeding from his head, then went to a neighbor for help.
Farmington Police were also told the suspect stole the victim’s keys, wallet, and cell phone before taking the victim’s car.
Police later learned the stolen vehicle had crashed in Knox County, and the suspect fled on foot, headed for Yates City.
Officers asked law enforcement from surrounding areas to help find the suspect. Knox County deputies eventually caught and arrested the 16-year-old suspect.
The teen is facing multiple charges, including home invasion, aggravated battery to a person 60 years or older, aggravated battery, and motor vehicle theft.
