PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Saturday is the last day that Peoria County’s Landfill Two will be open to the public.
The county says that’s the last day for its Free Load Program for private household waste, due to Landfill Two nearing capacity.
The county says, in the meantime, waste for the Free Load Program will be accepted at the Indian Creek Landfill in Hopedale, and the Wigand Transfer Station in Chillicothe. Both locations will also accept construction debris, as well as the Tazewell Transfer Station in East Peoria.
The Free Load program will transition to the new transfer station in Pottstown once it’s online in 2026.
The transfer station will be needed until Landfill Three can be built and operational, which could take around 10 years.
