PEORIA Ill. – The city of Peoria partnering with Habitat for Humanity, for a project to bring quality and affordable housing options to the community.
Last year, Habitat for Humanity Greater Peoria Area announced they will be getting nearly $1 million to build several new single-family homes in the South side of Peoria.
Monday, Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Lea Anne Schmidgall appeared on WMBD’s The Phil Luciano Show, to discuss the plan.
“Getting families who have been looking to get their lives better by purchasing a home, but just aren’t able to do it in a conventional market, Habitat is going to be able to build new and affordable homes,” Schmidgall said.
She also discussed the partnership with the city of Peoria.
“We work with the city very closely and have for years, and they came in and worked with the city and they did several studies of neighborhoods and areas of Peoria that needed improvement or revitalization,” Schmidgall said.
Habitat held an open house for the project last month at the George Washington Carver Community Center.
