MORTON, Ill. – A head-on collision involving a pickup and a semi on Eastbound I-74 near Morton leaves one person dead.
Illinois State Police say the crash happened around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the pickup was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-74, when it hit the semi head-on. As a result, the pickup caught on fire, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
Eastbound I-74 near Morton was reopened just after 6 a.m. Thursday as Illinois State Police investigated at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation. No other information has been released.

25 News reports the semi had significant front-end damage and the pickup caught fire.
Posts on social media showed smoke and flames shooting high above the scene of the accident.
Eastbound I-74 near the Morton exit was reopened to traffic early Thursday morning.
