PEORIA, Ill. – A Chicago woman charged with First Degree Murder in the death of her son in Peoria this week has been ordered to remain in jail.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says a petition to detain 25-year-old Andrea Luncsford was granted Thursday.
Luncsford’s son, one-month-old Grayson, died on Monday after being found unresponsive by police, and pronounced dead at the scene in the East Bluff
Prosecutors say Andrea called family members after finding Grayson unresponsive, with Grayson reportedly beyond help when family arrived.
Andrea reportedly was erratic and appeared to be under the influence of drugs when she spoke with police. She told investigators the next day she had given Grayson multiple bottles.
Prosecutors say a forensic pathologist’s preliminary report indicates Grayson died from negligence, potential heat exposure, dehydration, and malnourishment, and may have been dead for 12 to 24 hours when he was found.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood this week says Grayson allegedly was in a hot vehicle for hours on the day he died.
Andrea Luncsford is due back in court on October 9th.
