PEORIA Ill. – The Peoria Riverfront Museum is headed to space…
Thursday morning representatives of the museum unveiled their brand new “Space Exploration Gallery”, located right outside the Dome Planetarium.
The new exhibit features hands-on displays that Renae Kerrigan, Curator of Science and the Planetarium’s Director, says have actually been in space.
“We have artifacts from the Apollo missions, that explored the Moon 50 years ago. Information about the exploration of Mars, and other places with robotic space craft. Real meteorites and even a meteorite that you can touch, so you can touch a rock from space,” Renae Kerrigan said.
The museum’s President and C-E-O, John Morris, was in attendance and claims that following these recent additions — Peoria’s facility, is one of one.
“The only Museum of it’s kind, in America. Our science, history achievements wrapped up together with a planetarium and a giant screen. There’s only one museum in the whole country that has all of the things that have,” John Morris said.
The display is now open – and will be for the foreseeable future.
