PEORIA, Ill. – The signs have been removed, and the ATM outside Chase Bank’s Jefferson Street location in Peoria is boarded up.
A Chase spokesperson confirms the downtown Peoria branch closed for good earlier this month.
“For health and safety reasons we closed the Riverview Plaza branch on Sept. 4 and it will not reopen. We’ll continue serving Peoria customers at our Knoxville Ave. branch (7707 Knoxville Ave) or anytime via the Chase app or online at chase.com.”
Chase Bank was the only business still open in the Riverview Plaza building since the Peoria Fire Department shut it down in February.
The Riverview Plaza, owned by MJ Illinois LLC, was plagued with several fire safety code violations that kept the rest of the building shuttered since February.
The City of Peoria and MJ Illinois LLC reached an agreement a week ago, calling for repairs to be made to the building’s fire alarm and suppression systems, with the city delaying fines for six months while the repairs are made.
MJ Illinois LLC must also reimburse over $10,000 in inspection fees before October 1. Riverview Plaza’s parking deck must also be repaired.
There is no timeline for when all the repairs will be done.
