PEORIA, Ill. – The Center for Prevention of Abuse has been awarded two new grants for its prevention education programs.
The Gilmore Foundation, which supports youth development, human services, abuse prevention, education and shelters in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford Counties, has awarded CFPA a grant totaling $300,000 that will be paid over two years.
The Center for Prevention of Abuse has also received a one year grant for more than $234,000 from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, as part of the Restore, Reinvest, and Renew program.
“CFPA works hard every day to stop abuse before it begins,” said Carol Merna, CEO of The Center for Prevention of Abuse. “A substantial grant from the Gilmore Foundation and R3 funding from the State of Illinois will enable us to continue to reach young people with life-saving prevention education programming.”
In 2024, the Center’s team of educators reached over 41,000 students in the tri-county area, equipping them with knowledge to recognize signs of violence and abuse, and the tools to know how to respond to those situations.
The Center for Prevention of Abuse experienced a $1 million loss in financial support, Merna says, due to a substantial deficit in the federal Victims of Crime Act’s Crime Victims Fund.
The Center’s prevention programs include: Child body safety, Social and emotional learning, Bullying prevention, Healthy relationships and Violence prevention.
