PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says despite some reported sightings of the suspect in a recent alleged child abduction and vehicle theft, the man remains at large.
Victor Farris, 45, of Ohio is wanted in connection with the theft of a vehicle Wednesday in the area Pioneer Parkway and University Street, with a three-year-old child inside.
The child was later found safe at a gas station on Airport Road, while the car was found on Farmington Road near Wildwood Road.
Watkins said Sunday his department has followed up on numerous possible sightings throughout Peoria County all weekend but none of them were confirmed to be Farris.
Farris was arrested in Woodford County August 31 but was later released. Watkins said he is not aware of any ties Farris has to the Peoria area. Watkins said when Farris was arrested in Woodford County has was passing through the area.
Since Wednesday’s incident, tips have ranged from a person walking into a cornfield north of Brimfield, to a man that appears to look like Farris on a bike on Hicks Hallow Road, east of Illinois Route 40.
Watkins is still encouraging the public to keep reporting possible sightings of Farris just in case he is still in the area.
