PEORIA, Ill. – Careless use of smoking materials is listed as the cause of a two-alarm fire at a Peoria apartment complex.
Firefighters were called to the area of Gale and Institute around 5:15 p.m. Saturday. They found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the two-story apartment complex that houses 10 apartments.
The second alarm was called because of the size of the building.
Crews had to cut holes into the roof to ventilate the building and no victims were found during a search.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army assisted several families displaced by the fire.
There were no injuries.
