WASHINGTON, D.C. – Central Illinois could finally have a new U.S. Attorney.
President Joe Biden has nominated Gregory Harris — a current Assistant U.S. Attorney based in the district’s Springfield office — for the top job.
If the U.S. Senate approves, Harris would replace John Milhiser, who resigned in February after Biden was sworn into office.
Harriss — The White House says — has been a federal prosecutor since 2001, and also served as a federal prosecutor from 1980 to 1988.
In a statement, Senator Dick Durbin says he would expect Harris to be “diligent, thoughtful, and principled.”
Douglas Quivey has been acting U.S. Attorney, and also spent several years as an assistant prosecutor.
The Central District has offices in Peoria, Rock Island, Springfield, and Urbana.
