PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has been sentenced to 55 months in prison, along with three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
39-year-old Alan Collins was previously convicted of felony offenses in 2004 and 2005 in Cook County, along with two prior federal convictions for firearm possession in the Central Districts of Illinois in 2008 and 2014, according to the Department of Justice.
At sentencing, the government established that in November 2022, the ATF and Peoria Police executed a federal search warrant on Collins’ home, finding a loaded semi-automatic 9mm pistol in his bedroom.
Police also found a 9mm 30-round extended magazine loaded with live ammunition, a speed loader, and additional rounds of ammunition.
Collins admitted to handling the gun, but said his girlfriend had purchased it, and she’d left it at his house.
Collins pleaded guilty in the case in February.
He faces up to 15 years in prison; up to 3 years of supervised release; and a fine of up to $250,000.
