PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Coroner says an autopsy on a Peoria County Jail inmate, found dead early Tuesday morning, was inconclusive.
In a statement Wednesday morning, Coroner Jamie Harwood says there were no lethal injuries found on the exam of 31-year-old Wayne Hatton, despite the report of an altercation in downtown Peoria Monday night.
Biopsies and toxicology results are pending, which could take four to six weeks to complete, Harwood says.
Hatton was found unresponsive in a holding cell at the jail, where he was alone around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Life-saving measures were performed, along with several rounds of Narcan and epinephrine, with no effect.
Hatton was taken to Carle Health Methodist Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
Illinois State Police and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office are handling an investigation.
