PEORIA, Ill. – A Dunlap man will spend the next two-and-a-half years in federal prison on gun charges.
29-year-old Donald Yarber was given a 30 month sentence on Wednesday, which is to be followed by three years of supervised release, on charges of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon.
The government testified that Yarber was pulled over by Peoria Police in July of 2023, when officers became aware of the presence of cannabis, a handgun with an obliterated serial number, and a high-capacity magazine loaded with ammunition. A live round of ammunition that matched the one found in his vehicle was also found in Yarber’s shoe while he was being booked at the county jail.
The handgun was found to be one used in two prior shooting incidents, one four days prior to Yarber’s arrest in July of 2023, and the other in Chicago in 2021.
Yarber could have received a sentence of 15 years in prison.
