MAPLETON, Ill. – A man is dead after he was found floating in a Peoria County lake.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says deputies and the Department of Natural Resources went to a lake in rural Mapleton around 12:15 p.m. Monday after family members said they were concerned after finding their loved one’s vehicle in that area, but not him.
Watkins says a drone helped find the 61-year-old male from Topeka floating in the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boat had partially sunk and was found a short time later.
Watkins says there are no signs of foul play.
The Peoria County Coroner will later provide more information about the victim.
