PEORIA, Ill. — We’re learning the very latest since drivers spotted smoke rising above a neighborhood off West Glen Avenue in Peoria Friday morning.
Peoria Firefighters say a patrolling police officer was the first to spot the smoke and call in the suspected fire. It was an address in the 5000 block of Sherwood Avenue, just off Glen and University.
The officer and a neighbor reportedly alerted a person inside the home that his house was on fire. That resident and two dogs were then able to get out unharmed.
Firefighters first noticed heavy fire and smoke spreading from the garage — into the home itself. Overall, a news release says Peoria fire fighters spent roughly 90 minutes on the response altogether.
Initially, it’s believed the cause of the fire was accidental. The property reportedly sustained around 100-thousand dollars in damage.
