PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to a fire near Monroe and Spring Streets Monday evening that caused roughly $20,000 damage.
Battalion Chief Larry Carter said crews arrived around 5:40 p.m. to find flames showing from an outside wall of a one-story home.
The firefighters’ quick action allowed them to control the blaze in about 10 minutes, stopping it from spreading to the attic or inside the home.
Crews remained on the scene for about two hours checking for hot spots and hidden fire.
No one was home at the time, but crews rescued a family dog from inside.
An adult and a child were displaced by the fire, but no injuries were reported at the scene.
Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
