PEORIA, Ill. – The cause of a South Peoria house fire late Friday night is under investigation.
Peoria Fire says crews were dispatched just after 11:15 P.M. to the area of Proctor and Griswold, finding heavy fire coming from the home.
Crews discovered the fire in the basement, and had it under control within 10 minutes. Fire crews prevented it from spreading to the rest of the house, but the home suffered smoke and water damage on the main level and basement.
Five adults and two children in the home were able to escape before fire crews arrived.
Two dogs and two cats were found and removed by fire crews, with one dog and one cat revived with oxygen at the scene and reunited with their owners.
The Red Cross is providing housing for the adults and children.
Peoria Fire Arson Dog Molly was brought in to help investigate.
