PEORIA, Ill. – A bridge rehab will result in the closure of a South Peoria street into this fall.
MacArthur Highway between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and John Gwynn Jr. Avenue will close starting at 7 a.m. Thursday for the MacArthur Highway-MacArthur Bridge to Howett Street rehabilitation project.
The closure is expected to last through November.
Business access will be maintained and detour routes will be marked.
Entry and exit into the Valley Park Shopping Center should be made from John Gwynn Jr. Avenue, while entry and exit into the Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Center parking lot should be made from Richard Pryor Place.
Drivers are urged to utilize the marked detour routes and use caution in the area.
Detour Route
Southbound traffic on MacArthur Highway should utilize Main Street to Monroe Street to Romeo B. Garrett Avenue to Richard Pryor Place to Jefferson Avenue.
Northbound through traffic should utilize Hurlburt Street to Richard Pryor Place to Romeo B. Garrett Avenue to Monroe Street to Main Street.
