PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County grand jury has indicted a South Peoria man in connection with a fatal shooting two years ago.
34-year-old Rico Booker was indicted Tuesday for First Degree Murder.
Court documents state that Booker, or someone whose conduct he was legally responsible for, allegedly caused the death of 29-year-old Roy Payne on May 22nd, 2023.
Payne was found by Peoria Police officers with a gunshot wound to the chest after responding to shots fired and a vehicle crash in the area of Westmoreland and Grinnell. The coroner’s office says Payne died instantly.
Booker is due back in court on Thursday. He was previously ordered held in connection to various drugs and weapons charges.
