MORTON, Ill. – Morton is joining other communities across central Illinois in implementing a grocery tax.
The village Board of Trustees approved the 1% local tax at Monday night’s meeting.
There was no discussion on the topic from Trustees, and the only no vote was from Trustee Steve Leitch.
The local tax replaces a similar state tax that is set to expire at the end of this year.
Other cities that have implemented a local grocery tax include Peoria, Washington, East Peoria, and Pekin.
