PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Fire Department continues to monitor the progress of the construction of the new Fire Station 16 on Northmoor Road.
The old firehouse was demolished in February.
The location is on the border of Central and North Peoria, making it crucial to public safety.
“When we ran the data using our software system, we ran the heat maps to see where the call volumes are located,” Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger told 25 News, “we looked for where we could most effectively respond in the Northwest corridor for the city and it was this location.”
The Fire Station 16 will cost $5 million and will include community center rooms for the first time.
Sollberger said the new firehouse will also include bedrooms for firefighters working 24-hour shifts.
Completion of the firehouse is expected in November. It will house six firefighters, Engine 16 and Truck 14.
