PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County coroner has identified the man who died after a vehicle theft in Peoria Monday afternoon.
Coroner Jamie Harwood says 70-year-old William Collier, of Bartonville, was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in critical condition.
Despite aggressive care efforts, his condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Harwood says autopsy results showed Collier suffered severe traumatic head injuries and other blunt force trauma injuries when he was hit by a vehicle stolen from Billie Jo’s Towing on W. Lincoln Avenue in Peoria.
Collier and another employee tried to close the tow yard’s gate on Monday, as two men broke through it at a high rate of speed. The other employee suffered minor injuries.
On Wednesday, Police Spokesperson Semone Roth said no arrests had been made.
The case remains under investigation by Peoria Police and the Coroner’s Office.
