PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – The work to repair the damage to the Peoria Pizza Works restaurant after an early morning fire on Friday could take months to complete.
That’s according to Peoria Heights Fire Department Chief Tony Ardis.
Ardis tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” that police spotted the building on fire just before 4:00 A.M., with crews arriving to find heavy smoke and fire in the center of the roof. He says Peoria Fire was able to get to the scene in a few minutes, and the department was also assisted by Dunlap and West Peoria.
Ardis says the fire was put out in about 10-15 minutes. He says the bulk of the fire was on the main floor, but flames had spread to the attic.
A Peoria fire investigator has been called in, but Ardis says a cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
Ardis says there is a possibility that the building could be salvaged.
“The bar area, that area really didn’t get hardly any fire damage, it was a lot of smoke. The main banquet area, that’s where it suffered extensive fire damage,” Ardis said.
Ardis estimates damage at this time at around $250,000.

PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Area firefighters responded to a working fire at Peoria Pizza Works early Friday morning in Peoria Heights.
Crews from Peoria and West Peoria were called to help fight the fire that broke out before 4 a.m. at Prospect and Cox Avenue/Crestwood Drive.
Prospect Road was closed to traffic between Lake Avenue and War Memorial Drive for some time, but the road was reopened around 6:05 a.m.
There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire. Damage has been described as “extensive”.

PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Firefighters were called to the scene of a large fire at Peoria Pizza Works in Peoria Heights early Friday morning.
The fire reportedly broke out around 3:30 a.m. Traffic on Prospect Road between Lake Avenue and War Memorial Drive was shut down due to the fire at Prospect and Cox Avenue/Crestwood Drive.
Prospect Road was reopened to traffic around 6:05 a.m.
Crews from surrounding fire departments, including West Peoria and Peoria were called in to assist fighting the fire.
