PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – The identity of the body found in the Illinois River on Monday has been released.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the victim is 24-year-old Alexsus Nellum of Peoria Heights.
Harwood says Nellum was positively identified through fingerprints, with the help of the Illinois State Police Crime Lab.
Harwood says there are still questions with the case and is working with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office to answer them.
Nellum was discovered in the river near Mosaic Fertilizer in Bartonville on Monday at around 2:30 P.M.

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is asking for information after a woman’s body was found in the Illinois River on Monday.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. Monday to a business in the 8000 block of Cargill Road, after the body was found in the river by an employee.
The Pekin Fire Department responded with a boat and retrieved the body from the river.
Timber Hollis Fire Department, Illinois State Conservation Police and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office also responded.
Detectives and the coroner’s office are in the process of identifying the woman and the cause of death.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says she appears to be between 25-35 years old, of mixed race, with very short, tight, curly black hair, 5 foot 7 inches tall, and around 280 pounds.
He said she had no tattoos or scars and was wearing no jewelry. She may have been in the water for more than 24 hours before her body was discovered.
