PEORIA, Ill. – A man will spend two years in prison after pleading guilty to killing his girlfriend’s kitten at a Peoria apartment complex.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 34-year-old Paul Cox pleaded guilty today Thursday to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, and sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The incident occurred on October 29th last year, when Peoria Police responded to the Lexington Hills Apartments on reports of trouble with a male.
Cox’s girlfriend told police that she was breaking up with him after Cox dropped her off at her apartment.
Cox then reportedly got upset, entered the apartment, grabbed the kitten by the neck, and stated he was going to kill it.
The kitten was later found dead by police outside the apartment.
