EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria’s Festival of Lights is celebrating 40 years, kicking things off this weekend with the Parade of Lights Saturday night.
East Peoria’s Jill Peterson says this year’s parade will feature 40 floats for 40 years, with a few new additions.
“We did a survey back in February, and asked people what they’d like to see from new floats, and one of the top responses was the Festival Wreath. We do have a replica of the Festival of Lights Wreath, it looks really pretty…it’s awesome, it’s round and it looks just like the wreath, just a smaller version. The other float we’re keeping a surprise for the parade,” Peterson says.
Ahead of Saturday night’s parade, roads along the parade route will be closed to traffic, so Peterson says be prepared.
“All roads will be closed at 6:30, and then Springfield Road at the intersection with Taylor Street, down by the post office, that will be closed from 5:45 (p.m.) Saturday through 4 p.m. Monday, so that we can get the floats moved up (to VFW Park) in preparation for Folepi’s Winter Wonderland.
The Parade of Lights steps off at the intersection of East Washington Street and Dolans Lane at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Folepi’s Winter Wonderland opens next Friday, November 29, running through Sunday, January 5th.
Other Festival of Lights events include the Folepi ornament hunt that starts on November 27, the Shop and Stroll on December 3rd, and the Festival of Lights Historic Holiday Traditions open house on December 7th.
