PEORIA, Ill. – Fourteen employees at Illinois American Water’s Peoria District took to the picket line Tuesday.
25 News reports members of the International Union of Operating Engineers #399 approved the strike on Monday after a deal between it and the utility was not renewed.
The Peoria District oversees customers in Peoria, Farmington, Glasford, and Bartonville, with employees testing drinking water from the Illinois River.
A union representative says several rounds of discussions were not successful.
The union is seeking higher wages, more feasible shifts, and better benefits.
In a statement, Illinois American Water says both sides have engaged in “good faith negotiations” and have employees still on the job.
