PEORIA, Ill. – Another week, and another rise in gas prices in central Illinois.
GasBuddy reports the average price of a gallon of unleaded in the Peoria-area on Monday at around $3.57/g. The average is up 12.3 cents in the past week, up 35.6 cents in the past month, and 8.9 cents higher than one year ago.
The cheapest price reported in Peoria on Monday was $3.25/g, with the highest at $3.75/g.
AAA also reported an average of $3.57/g in their survey of Peoria-Pekin metro area stations. Their average is 11.3 cents higher than a week ago, 36 cents higher than one month ago, and 6 cents higher than one year ago.
Price increases at the pump were also seen across the state, with GasBuddy reporting a 23.7 cent increase in the state average to $3.70/g. AAA reports their Illinois average at $3.72/g, up 23.1 cents in the past week, up 54 cents from one month ago, and up 18.6 cents from one year ago.
Analysts say a majority of the country saw gas price increases in the past week, a trend that is expected to continue.
“The pinch at the pump has been manageable for now, with prices about 30 cents higher than mid-January, but that will likely change as we enter the madness we tend to see in March with refinery maintenance hitting its peak, impacting how much gasoline can be produced as we make the changeover to the summer blends. This always crimps supply, leading to further gas price increases,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said.
GasBuddy reports the national average at $3.34/g, up 10 cents in the past week.
