PEORIA, Ill. – OSF HealthCare says it’s important to honor and support parents who had babies die at or before child birth, so they were honored Sunday.
It was an annual service – held this year at the First United Methodist Church downtown.
Parents – mothers especially – were given the opportunity to share their stories, and received special ornaments to memorialize their lost little one.
”I think it’s important for them to get through that bereaving process, and it gives them a moment to remember their children. It also gives them the opportunity to let them know their baby or children had purpose in their life and they can take time to love that baby or that child,” said Jeanne Perino, neonatal nurse, to 25 News.
Perino tells 25 News it’s an important opportunity to have, especially during the holidays.
Several dozen families attended, and also had the chance to visit Luthy Botanical Garden.
