PEORIA, Ill. – It’s still a few years off, but Ameren is planning a project officials say will improve electric reliability in the Peoria area.
Ameren held a series of public meetings between Tuesday and Wednesday to gather input on a proposed new 138 kilovolt transmission tower planned that would connect the Alta and Pioneer substations.
“Currently, Peoria is supported by two 138 kV transmission lines. Ameren is looking to construct the third one to help with redundancy and reliability concerns in the area,” said Kimberly Gross, Ameren’s project manager.
Gross says there haven’t been a lot of reliability issues in the Peoria area, but this will help keep problems from happening, once it’s complete in 2025. The problem at this time, though, is exactly where to put up the tower, and that’s where the public can come in.
“Having that input is critical to us developing the proposed route that we are having. This is just the first of several open houses we intend to have to take a look at that feedback,” said Gross.
In addition to attending the open houses, you can submit feedback by e-mailing, calling, or writing a letter to Ameren.
